It's all about what is culturally acceptable. Some cultures consume dogs, cats, rodents, monkeys, etc. In most cases, it's what those people have been doing for thousands of years.

I live in the USA, and I would never consider eating (for example) a dog. But if I were to travel and visit a country where that practice is common, then maybe I would try it. The same thing goes for other foods that people might consider weird or disgusting. "When in Rome", as they say.

Dogs yes, cats no Dog is served in speciality restaurants but the vast majority of Koreans do not eat it. Only a minority of usually older people. Edit - Reaper The questioner is asking about Korean people not Chinese. Koreans do not eat cats. I am well aware of the Sars outbreak as I lived in Hong Kong at the time. Korea was not touched by Sars (sorry there were three cases but that was probably caused by people travelling from China).

yea we also eat Caterpillar eggs and dandelions. If you were poor I'd eat the dog anyways its considered one of the best meats better than beef its called Ka-go-gi. Its turning into an old practice though in South Korea so its starting to become harder to find a place. There are worse sounding foods to think about. People eat cow intestines, tongue, hoofs, and so on. Food is food if your hungry enough. Hell when I eat Korean food I don't even ask what i eat anymore it all taste good.

"Remote places in eastern Asia...."? Eastern Asia is one of the most densely populated areas on Earth!

Technicalities aside, yes. In many places around the world, anything that edible is eaten. Hearts, livers, brains, tongues, feet, anything goes. This may sound disgusting to someone with plenty of food options, but it may be a smart thing to do...And it doesn't seem to be doing Asians any harm.

Why is it any more disgusting than eating pigs, cows, chickens and fish? Do you think it's disgusting to eat baby sheep (veal)? How about baby pigs--head on over to Chili's and grab some baby back ribs. There's no difference in eating any of these animals or eating dogs and cats. Eating any animal is disgusting.

Yes it is true. You have to realize that it is a different culture with different rules when it comes to what people eat. In Peru some of the people eat guinea pigs on pizza.

In Korea they eat dog, but I do think it is less popular these days. It is an expensive dish, I think it is only eaten on special occasions.

Yes ... my husband was in Korea for a year ... and was a little shocked they also eat rat. I think that dog is called key-go-gi- not sure how you spell it but I think that is how it is said. I think they also eat horse. I was very grossed out about it. I could not eat any of it.
