This is my first Passover being vegan, and I'm looking for ideas since my food choices are very limited. The things we *cannot* eat on passover are: flour containing products including satien (except mazah, which cannot get wet), beans (including soybeans, so that leaves out all tofu and tempeh), peas, rice, corn...please help with any ideas!!! thanks! :)

For those who asked about wetting the matzah...yes, we are that small percentage of ultra-orthodox jews that hold by not wetting the matzah. :)

The above websites have recipes for vegans for passover. I hope you find some interesting recipes there. I have not heard of the rule for not moistening the matzah. You definitely can moisten the matzah.

Happy Passover to you!

Wow this a tough one. I been a vegetarian for over 20 years and Jewish since birth, but I'm not vegan. I always hated Passover as kid because even though I was not yet a vegetarian, I did not like to eat meat and I found it hard to make it through the week without pizza and pasta.
(I don't even try to keep Passover anymore, my family is reform.)
Although I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood, with an Orthodox population, I'm not familiar with the "ban" on wet matzoh.
There are two books that might be helpful.
"Jewish Vegetarian Cooking" by Rose Friedman has a Passover section (no longer in print, but you can find a used copy for a few $ on amazon) and "The Complete Passover Cookbook" by Frances R. AvRutick has many vegetarian recipes. (Although they might not be vegan, maybe you can work with them anyway.)
Think your main problem is going to be not getting enough protein. Maybe you should talk to your Rabbi. Maybe you can get permission to eat something that is in the "grey" area of being consistered chometz.
Good luck

As far as matzo not getting wet (gebrocts), it is not neccessary to keep that extra strictness. I think it is only some Chassidim who do. Other orthodox are okay with wetting the matzo.
You will be eating lots of potatoes. Salad. Soak the matzo and bake it with tomato sauce. Consider some leniency and allow yourself to use cheese and eggs. Just for the holiday. That would open up so many possibilities.
Mushrooms and garlic.
Peppers and onions.
Potatoes and peppers.
You won't be getting any protein unless you go dairy. Then again, it's just eight days.

I know nothing about passover, but due to food allergies, I pretty much have to live like that all of the time. I am allergic to wheat, eggs, soy, dairy, peanuts, tomato, and avacado. I do eat rice, peas, and corn though. Can you have tapioca? If so, you can make veggie spring rolls with tapioca wrappers (asian market) Tapioca is also good in veggie soups, and bubble tea. Can you have quinoa? Quinoa salad or pilaf is nice. What about millet or amaranth? They make good pilafs and stir fries too, with your favorite veggies. You can make good ployes (pancakes) with buckwheat flour, which is not a wheat based grain, despite its name. Potato flour, fava bean flour, and other alternative flours, if they can be used, can be purchased at health food stores. Perhaps look into the foods avoided by people (like me) with celiac disease-we are quite used to avoiding things. If I can be of more help, feel free to email me

Well, it sounds like you are going to have to fast but, why don't you check the lists of foods that are allowed and eat them?
