Losing around 100 hairs a day is indeed normal. The difference may be to do with a difference in hair colour. If your mom's hair is lighter, perhaps you don't notice that she loses as many hairs as you do.

Several factors can cause more than normal hair loss: stress, hormonal change, and simply getting older. There are also some medical conditions that can cause hair loss, such as alopecia, or hormonal imbalances.

I don't think you should bother visiting your doctor yet, though. Unless you actually have visible bald patches on your head, they won't take you seriously. If you are male, there's no point going to the doctor at all - balding is just a part of life. If you're female, then keep an eye on it. If you notice thinning or bald patches, go to your doctor straight away.

In the meantime, some people think that Indian head massages help. I've put a link below to a page explaining more.

Obviously you are not from the US. However, we have problems like that too. My ex-girlfriend lost TONS of hair when she was pregnant. I myself have been going bald for about a year and a half, so don't sweat it, just deal with it. Either it happens or it doesn't (my ex got her hair back, I didn't) -john (rock island, il)

that's pretty normal, your friend is right, 100 hair per day does apply to most people, your mum's scalp probably is in a very good shape and healthy condition, anyway, everyone differs, what's important is u are within the normal range.
