This question relates to comparisons with other indirect methods, such as by placing the substance under the tongue, (obviously direct injection would be the fastest.) If there is absorption through the eye, is it through the eyeball or because of entry into the tear ducts or nasal passages?

No. The fastest way to get something into the bloodstream is via Intavenous injection- the IV. That is going directly into the blood circulation. Second fastest is via the mouth, in the form of a gel or liquid, depending on the medication. In some cases, the old suppository is best choice for fast absorbtion. Eyedrops get blinked out too fast, and diluted to quickly by tear production.
