I received a grant once, ( Man oh man, was that nice! ) I am descended from poor ignorant hillbillies and I'm not an atheist. Frankly I don't know very much in the great scheme of things and I'll tell You this as well, those hillbillies are hospitable and fun folk to hang out with. You don't get that with the ivory tower crowd Boyo! Yeee ha for Hee ha!

The way you put it 'highly educated' atheists versus 'poor ignorant' baptist hillbillies says it all doesn't it? A highly educated chap is worth more intellectually than someone who is both poor and ignorant.
At the end of the day, maybe it comes down to mass indoctrination. People who are atheists have broken free from fear of hell and the supernatural ether that apparently is God. Others...well, live their whole life being confined to their religions, they wouldn't know better.
Oh, by the way, I'm an atheist- Buddhist. Karma's my judge.

Do you qualify to label hillibillies poor ignorant baptists?
...and FYI, atheists really need to do serious research before they can declare themselves one. They need grants too just like the hillibillies; only the church has not been giving grants to them but milking many of them high & dry, destitute.
I wonder what you will be doing about it.

it's because once people start to learn more they realise that there is a natural reason why things happen and they don't have to blame God for it. I'm pretty sure that is how most (old) religions began, to explain the unexplainable. but that is actually backward since you need to know that first...
but even highly educated people can still be religious, I know several. after all, there are still things that people just can't explain...

That is so very ignorant, why is it that whenever someone is sure they are right, they have to put someone else down to prove how "smart" (and self-assured) they are?
