I have Lupus so I get swollen lymph nodes. Problem lately is that they aren't going down. They have been list this for 6+ months. I have regular blood work and have a CT every other month to see if they are showing up anywhere else. They are hesitant to do a biopsy because I am on Coumadin for a clotting disorder and stopping that could cause another stroke.
But, yes, you need to see a doctor. For the fact it isn't painful...that concerns me. Painful ones are usually fighting infection.
Lymph nodes are glands that play an important part in your body's defense against infection. They produce lymph, which travels throughout your body in the lymph system, and filters impurities from the body.
Common areas where the lymph nodes can be felt (with the fingers) include:
* Groin
* Armpit
* Neck (there is a chain of lymph nodes on either side of the front of the neck, both sides of the neck, and down each side of the back of the neck)
* Under the jaw and chin
* Behind the ears
* On the back of the head
Lymph nodes can become swollen from infection, inflammatory conditions, an abscess, or cancer. Other causes of enlarged lymph nodes are rare. By far, the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection.
When swelling appears suddenly and is painful, it is usually caused by injury or an infection. Enlargement that comes on gradually and painlessly may, in some cases, result from cancer or a tumor.
Please see your doctor as soon as possible. They could be quite serious!

I lost my first wife to breast cancer because she also waited to long. There is no way of knowing what it is until she has a mamogram, and the ultra sound, and a biopsy of the lump to see if it,s cancerous. The sooner she gets into the Dr. the better she will be. If the tumor has not gotten bigger in a year that could be a good thing, but if it has, then the tests are important. Hopefully, it is just a cyst. If you want anymore info, please feel free to e mail me.

Cyst is different from cancerous tumors. Considering your case, it has not growing, quite hard, moving, I feel you need not worry. I myself as a couple of such cysts in my body for more than a decade. But I want you to know one thing, check the cyst, keep an eye on it. If it start bleeding or oozes out pus, Then immediately contact your oncologist, get a biopsy (where they take out a small portion, to test at an Pathology Lab) don,t worry nothing serious. Take care.

You really want to get this checked out by a professional. I had 2 of them. One in my arm and one in my lower lip. the one in my arm was a tumor. Fortunate for me it was benign. The one in my lower lip was a cyst. Both were removed through out patient. Didn't hurt at all. Plus you get a cool scar. If your creative you can make any outcome happen and have fun with it. Ha Ha!

Yes it is most likely a cyst. If it's under your left ear the most likely won't try to remove, they will give you meds to make it go away.
I would go see the Doc just in case it may be something more.

I had the same thing on my neck too. At first I feared it might be a cist. Luckily, I got brave enough as I came out of the shower I got a safety pin and burned the tip of it so as to disinfect it before poking it dead center. and walah!! a whole bunch of puss came gushing out. But don't do what I did, go see your doctor and play it safe

Any unusual lumps could be checked out. Chances are it is benign, but then again it could be cancerous.
