I've been searching for the answer to that question myself (I'm doing a research project on it in my Buddhism class). The closest lead I have come with is a practice called Kundalini Awakening in Kundalini Yoga. It has similar effects, such as the generation of heat in the body. Swami J has an outline of the effects of Kundalini Awakening in the website I've listed. I would not recommend you go about it alone, however, due to the potentially drastic effects it could have on your body.
