Muhammad (SAW) was of good character in the books I've read about him (by both Muslim and non-Muslim authors) and I see no problem following his example. Muhammad's (SAW) mission was to deliver the word of the one true God and teach people how to worship Him and Muhammad (SAW) was successful in accomplishing that, Alhamdullah (All praise do to Allah). I don't see how one would be guaranteed salvation just by words ("I accept Jesus as my Lord and personal savior"-heard it in church) when Jesus (PBUH) himself is depicted in the Bible as encouraging people to have good works because faith is not enough. Muslims also will be tested as Allah (SWT) stated in the Qur'an that you Muslims do not think because you take Shahadah and say "I believe" you will not be tried. Jesus also made it clear that he had no power to do anything except for it being the will of God. Now, on to the early signs-
in the 5 books of Moses (I forget which book), his people was promised someone like Moses (PBUH). Neither Jesus (PBUH) nor Muhammad (SAW) were mentioned by name. However, Muhammad (SAW) is more like Moses (PBUH) than Jesus (PBUH). In Isaiah (I forget the chapter and verse), Muhammad (SAW) is alluded to by description. This is in the Bible. What's also in the Bible, in the New Testament, is that Jesus (PBUH) is telling his disciples that 1- his mission was incomplete and 2- If he didn't leave, the comforter who praises Jesus often wouldn't come (no-I don't believe Jesus was crucified as a scapegoat for what he's innocent of; the old testament states that only the accursed would be hung from a tree). Once Muhammad (SAW) arrived, the notion of "God's chosen People" was dismissed, and rightly so. Now, everybody has to roll up their sleeves and get to working on their salvation (Muslims, too!). Oh, I forgot-you said something about "a faulty vessel" used by God. Because God knows us before we were created, how is it that God would "hand pick" "faulty vessels" to carry out His message that became the Bible? Practically every Prophet in the Bible was "a faulty vesell (I really HATE using that term when talking about Prophets).
Yes, I did respect your request not to refresh what I've learned.

Well I'm not a muslim, although I have knowledge of islam, but my observation of your question at first led me to believe you were asking a legitimate question: "Do you think he was just a faulty vessel that happened..." but in reality, it seems you were just providing a veiled argument as to why one shouldn't follow the teachings of Islam.
Anyway, my answer for the question, "How can you follow a man with this character?" is quite simple, for the same reason a christian can follow the teachings of Christ...
Because they have free will to do so.

hello JJ,
Your question is good, I'll answer you.. Regarding the age; there's no rule or certain age for a man to be a Prophet, according to Quran, Jesus Took the Burden of the Massege when he was 1 day old. There's no criteria for this...
Questionable character? Muhammad was Called between his people before Islam "The Honest; Truthful" He never lied or prejudiced anyone.. How's this personality questionable? Please explain in some additional details to your question.
Salvation is in the Quran as well, The sole difference is God's discreationary power. Salvation is a word that has a very wide meaning brother. You think it is well defined? what is salvation? how'd you know that your deeds might lead you to? God says in our Book:
"103 Say: Shall We inform you who will be the greatest losers by their works ?
104 Those whose effort goeth astray in the life of the world, and yet they reckon that they do good work. "
No one really know.. Watch the movie: "See no Evil" to know that everyone thinks he is doing the right job in life.
Mosses also had no early signs of being a Prophet, Neither Mother Mary (PBU Her) there's no sign that she'd be the mother of Jesus.. Despite we Muslims believe that Muhammad was mentioned in a correct version of the Bible.. No offense Brother.. But this statement has been erased.
Old Covenant !! Do you know that Priests found more than 5000 Mistake in the Old Covenant? Ever wondered why the Protestants abandoned it? Let's see what this Book Contains:
Incest:
"Genesis 19:32
Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."
Genesis 19:31-33 (in Context) Genesis 19 (Whole Chapter)
Genesis 19:33
That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up."
Take a very considerable look at this verse of the old testament: "Exodus 4:25
But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched {Moses'} feet with it. "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me," she said.
Exodus 4:24-26 (in Context) Exodus 4 (Whole Chapter) "
Slavery:
"Genesis 9:25
he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers."
Genesis 9:24-26 (in Context) Genesis 9 (Whole Chapter)
Genesis 9:26
He also said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
Genesis 9:25-27 (in Context) Genesis 9 (Whole Chapter)
Genesis 9:27
May God extend the territory of Japheth ; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave."
This Blood thirsty book can't be of Jesus (God in your Bible) who came to earth to bear torture for the sake of Humanity...
Besides; our Book contains many scientific facts that was reavealed during the past years and still are.. You must be aware that the Quran was told by an Illetrate man "Mohammed PBU Him) and to the Arabs.. One of the Most retarded nations at this time.. How come it tells that there are "Black holes that absorbs anything in the space" or "The earth is not flat, it is egged shape" or "The man semen determines the sex of the baby" or There are other dimensions"...
Friend, I wrote too much, and Hope you are not bored, you Must be aware the Only woman mentioned in the Quran is Virgin Mary with a Whole verse called after Her.. Quran only contradicts with the bible when it comes to matter that Jesus is God or son Of God...
:) I didn't copy paste any, I memorize 2/3 of the Quran and the full Bible...
Have a nice day...

Jesus himself announced the arrival of Mohammed. It's in the Bible (little mentioned by Christians, selective readers as they are) Is that not credibility and validity enough? Also look in the book of Who's Who and who do they list as the greatest leader in the history of mankind: Mohammed, of course. And where did you get the idea that there's no reward for believing in Allah. Will Jesus stand up for any of his followers? Can Jesus give anybody salvation? Well-read Christians will know the answer is no because Jesus never said he came to spill his blood for sinners. He said he came to fulfill the prophecies and do the will of God. That's exactly what he did. The idea that Mohammed had a questionable character is itself questionable. Don't know where you got that from.

The nobility of his character and the truthfulness of his mission is plain for all to see if one is prepared to face up to the facts with an open mind discarding all pre-concieved false ill notions. B4 he became a prophet he(saw) was called 'the trustworthy'.........wats so "questionable" abt his character? there r many signs which talk of the cumin of him but r u ready 2 beleive them? No. Salman al-Farisi was a Magian, a fire worshipper. However, he was inwardly burning to find the eternal truth, and left home. Before embracing Islam, he had worked for several Christian monks, the last of whom advised Salman on his deathbed:
Son, there is nobody left to whom I can commend you. But according to what we read in our books, the Last Prophet is about to appear. He will come with the pure creed of Abraham and will appear in the place to which Abraham migrated. Nevertheless, he will emigrate to another place and settle there. There are explicit signs of his Prophethood. For example, he will not eat of charity, but will accept gifts, and the seal of Prophethood will be between his two shoulders.
