Ligaments in general connect one bone to the other. It realllly sucks to tear any of your ligaments, for a multitude of reasons. The surgery is never pleasant, and the rehab/PT process will have you crying at some point, guaranteed. The actual tearing often produces a sound similar to the sound or velcro ripping apart. Its gross, painful, and if you're me, you are permanantly mentally scarred in that you can't hear velcro without replaying some traumatic experiences in your head.
