Reservations in advance for Da Silvanos, Pastis is walk in for brunch and lunch, but it is very popular at night, don't know if they take reservations, but would certainly try.

To play it safe, make a reservation. What night are you going? I usually never make reservations at either, but I usually dine out mid week (Mon - Thurs) so I never really have a problem. Pastis is just always busy, no matter what time. More bistro-fun type of place. DaSilvano is more chic, more drama.

Have fun when you go! Why not try Lupa as well? Mario Batali is amazing! Lupa is only 2 blocks away from DaSilvano.

Make sure you hit up the Gansevoort Hotel after Pastis for a cocktail. The rooftop bar is simply fabulous!

If you dress to impress, and are not a fat cow you will be able to walk in and get a table at either place. Obviously, reservations are the smart move, but again if you have the right look and attitude, walking in and sitting down is never a problem. I've pulled up in my friend's Maserati, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt and walked right past the Bridge and Tunnel set and sat down. Can't imagine that would happen if I pull up in my Accord.
