I think it was the one who knitted panties for his nine year old wife.
Or was it the one who sharpened the swords so they could behead 800 Jews in a day.
Im sure he loved them both

Imam Ali is. Think about it, Propeht mohemmed married his only daughter to him. He is his cousin. And he was choosen by the prophet to succeed him after his death. Omar and his crew didn't agree with Ali taking over so they basically killed the prophets family one by one.
Imam Ali had three children, Hassan and Hussien and a duaghter by the name of Zainab. they were all killed by the other party. The Sunni followers believe that Omar and his gang had the right to succeed because that is what the majority of the people wanted. But think about it if god left it up to the people to choose who was to succeed the prophet than god should of taken everyones vote when send the prophet to the people.
Look it up the internet and you will get a better history. But be a little open minded while doing so because there are two view the one of the Shia and the one of the sunni. The shia are the one that follow Imam Ali

For Muslims both have highly respected level, without any difference in each other.
Umer bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased on him) was a successful Caliph of Islam and the most wise man in the history of human kind.
Ali bin Talib became reason of emergence of several sects in Islam and end of Caliphate.

Ali was Closer as he married the prophet's daughter Fatima. Omar was the calif before Ali becuase he was chosen by Muslims and recommended by Abu bakr before his death. Both of Ali and Omar were his friends, equal in sciencerity and love.

Hazrat Ali was a cousin of Muhammad(pbuh), first child to embrace islam and son in law of Muhammad, husband of his beloved daughter Hazrat fatima ! while Omer was his companian and second Caliph of muslims ! we can not judge who was the better but i think hazrat Ali was more closer to him becuase of his blood relationship with him! But no doubt Omer had his credits in bringing islam up. !

Ali(r.a) was the fourth caliph of islam.
umar (r.a) was the second caliph of islam.Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said: "I have two ministers from the inhabitants of the heaven and two ministers from the inhabitants of the earth. The former are Jibreel and Mika’il, and the latter are Abu Bakr and `Umar." He said of the latter: "These two are [my] hearing and eyesight" and instructed his Companions: "Follow those that come after me: Abu Bakr and `Umar."
The innovations of those who bore excessive love and admiration for `Ali appeared in his own lifetime and he himself fought them in word and deed. To those that claimed that the Prophet had appointed him as successor after him he said: "In truth, Allah’s Messenger did not appoint any successor" and: "The Prophet was taken from us, then Abu Bakr was made the successor, so he did as the Prophet had done and according to his path until Allah took him from us; then `Umar was made the successor, so he did as the Prophet had done and according to his path until Allah took him from us." To those that claimed that he deserved the Caliphate better than Abu Bakr and `Umar he said: "The best of this Community after its Prophet are Abu Bakr and `Umar." To those that either hated him or overly loved him `Ali said: "Two types of people shall perish concerning me: a hater who forges lies about me, and a lover who over-praises me." To those that claimed that he or his family possessed other than the Qur’an which all Muslims had he said: "Whoever claims that we have something which we read other than the Qur’an has lied." Finally, when a group of people came to him saying: "You are He, you are our Lord! (anta Hû anta Rabbuna)" he had them executed and then ordered the bodies burnt.
SO basically, both hve made major contributions 2 islam n henz no muslim can say who muhammed(saw) like better coz der may hve been cases where at one point prophet(saw) saw umar(r.a) better 4 sum work n at times ali(r.a) better 4 sum oder work.
