Personally, if XP is working for you, I'd stick with that as long as I could. Only upgrade if you really need to, or if you're upgrading your entire system.

I suggest you should wait for the summer.
if you are buying, then get Windows Vista Ultimate, (the black one) to save your time and trouble. I got XP Home and found out I don't have IIS (only XP Pro got...)
or maybe you should wait for its Service pack 2 for Vista out first. Save your money, better OS will come.

I am using it right now and just got it installed on my new laptop today. I have heard that it is very stable, and no "patches" have been issued thus far 2 months in (this is good, for Microsoft products!).
I like it, but there are many things that make the set up very different from XP.
Take a while to set it up and "train" it to your liking. Once that is done, I think you will like it.
There's no real rush, but it seems fine to buy now. If you want to, go for it.

Or you can just do a dual boot with XP on one partition and Vista on another like me. You win both ways and you get to use vista OR xp, you really can't go wrong with that.

Well, alot of my buddies are using it and they say it's not bad. There are reported bugs here and there and personally I'm waiting for a year or so to get it. Just gotta wait for them to tweak it a little more. But really it's just a matter of opinion.

Stay away for the time being. it's not worth the aggravation of incompatible programs, constant "do you want to do this" dialogs, and support for alot of hardware is missing.
