Hi i just bought a pack of marlborough 20 smokes.
I am usually a fit person and is good at longer distance 3-4miles running. I am a 16 year old. I have smoked 20 cigarettes already and i was wondering if the effects are permanent. Like for example these things clog up your arteries so you wont be able to carry oxygen as much. Do you think this is temporary? When i stop smoking will it clear away? If not how do you treat it? I am just so worried i willl be out of breath after a few miles. PLZ HELP i have quit now

Many people think that there are no effects of smoking on their bodies until they reach middle age. Smoking-caused lung cancer, other cancers, heart disease, and stroke typically do not occur until years after a person's first cigarette. However, there are many serious harms from smoking that occur much sooner. In fact, smoking has numerous immediate health effects on the brain and on the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, immune and metabolic systems. While these immediate effects do not all produce noticeable symptoms, most begin to damage the body with the first cigarette– sometimes irreversibly – and rapidly produce serious medical conditions and health consequences. If you quit now there is still a good chance that it shouldn't effect your health too much permanently.

So you DID stopped. That's good. If you smoke a pack or , well, not too many anyway ( smokes) you wont have problems in the long term. But on the other way, yes, you will have problems when running. I had long time ago when I used to smoke and I also liked to run. Fortunately, I stopped many years ago.
Take care!

My father have been smoking for nearly 50 years and he's still fit like a bull, don't have any complication whatsoever, but its only a pack of cigarettes, you can quit in no time.

Its just best to stop smoking. Seriously, I used to smoke when I was 19, and only from smoking about a pack a week, I couldn't hardly run up a flight of stairs without feeling like crap. I was wheezing and my heart was working too hard. I'm so glad I don't smoke anymore. Please just stop.

If you just started smoking the effects on your endurance are temporary.

All the oxygen carrying stuff is true, I would highly recommend to not buy another pack and walk away from the smoking habit before it gets to ingrained and becomes hard to quit.

People who have smoked even for a long time go back to normal within a couple of years anyway, unless they have caused permanent damage like cancer or Emphysema. You will be just fine, just please don't smoke anymore. Or you will get out of breath, and you won't be able to exercise as much.

Don't worry your lungs have the ability to repair themselves, just don't do it anymore and you'll be good as new. I know this may sound dumb but if you want to smoke something, smoke marijuana. It doesn't do harm to your lungs like cigarettes does and its certainly not addictive, so go ahead and try it, you will love it!

Nicotine in cigarettes is addicting and is harmful for the body as a whole. Why go in for smoking now when u have lived w/o it so far.
