I stripped all the old paint and varnish off and am down to bare wood (hard wood) I think. I just don't want a too dark of a color which would make the kitchen even smaller. I was thinking pecan or light oak color. Is the all in one ok to use or should I do the step by step method? Room size around 5x15. Very narrow but long

I just finished two kitchens and two bathrooms worth of cabinets. Both custmers were very satisfied with the results. I used polyshades. Golden oak.

Your better off to purchase the stain and then apply 3 coats of urethane and lightly sand in between coats. Use a tack cloth to remove any dust. The reason is you'll get a much harder surface and cabinets take alot of abuse. I don't recommend the minwax product as there skimping on the resin if you've got "ZAR" products in your area use them, much better product. Good luck Les the painter

I have used the Polyshades with good results. Follow directions on the can and be sure to use the steel wool between coats. Color would be your choice, but I agree that lighter colors will make the room seem larger.
