The term "homosexual" dates from the late 19th century, when human sexuality began to be studied as a science. There is no term that means homosexual orientation in the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts of the Bible. So, there is no direct condemnation of homosexuality or original Bible written passage against homosexuality.
The sins of Sodom, as discribed in the Bible never made any direct reference to anal sex and the sins were, in fact, pride, laziness, insensitivity to the needs of the poor, haughtiness, and having comitted abomination. The Hebrew word "to'ebah," translated as "abomination," was used throughout the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) to refer to various condemned behaviors, such as Hebrews and Egyptians eating together, Hebrews eating lobster, shrimp, or snakes, sacrificing an animal in the temple which had a blemish, women wearing men's clothing (e.g. pants), a man remarrying his former wife, etc.
How many Christians study the Bible enough to know this?

Oh yes, and Leviticus!Let us not forget that Christian bigoted reference!
The verse about man laying with man as with woman can be interpreted many ways and it is in the same place that the abominations of eating shrimp and other shell fish is placed. So, either everyone must follow all the "abomination" passages or one must accept that these passages are meant as old Jewish laws.In either case, interpretations are open for debate.I don't lay with my man as I would with a woman.

Thank you for all your answers.Even though some answers have tried very hard to make their point that the Bible says being gay is a sin, they can not convince someone who studied it extensively with several translations including numerous original language translations.I am sorry to say that homosexuality nor anal sex is directly mentioned and anyone who really studies the Bible will know that. What is really sad about the whole thing is that I am not even a Christian anymore.I left the faith because I figured out how to think for myself. But a part of me left the faith because of the inconsistency of knowledge about the Bible and the high consistency of Christians and clergy to use the Bible against those they don't agree with and twist the Bibles words. The Bible has a very specific language in it's original form and I am one of the few who knows what it says.

If i fairly had to argue the point, i'd teach you in scripture the various predictions which have already come actual. some ought to comprise, the fall of Babylon, the upward push and fall of Alexander the great. the top of the country of Israel, then its rebirth in one day, (something that no different united states has ever executed, been formed in one day) i'd also communicate about factors of technological information, alongside with Isa. putting forward the earth is a Sphere, no longer flat, that the oceans have rivers, ( we now call the gulf move) the means for everybody in the international to witness a similar element at one time, (up till the satellite tv for pc that replaced into no longer accessible) and one strong one is the military from the east with over 2 hundred million infantrymen, Up till China that replaced into an entire impossibility. yet my ace in the completed should be the area the position it states that in the most suitable days, each of the international will hate the country of Israel, that each one the international will opt to verify it destroyed, yet how He (God ) gained't enable that ensue. Why ought to everybody imagine 2000-3000 years in the past that everybody else ought to provide a turn about that pile of rocks and sand? yet as you'll locate the completed international does no longer do not we?

I concur with the web links "Ask Mr. Religion" posted. These thoroughly answer your fatuous analysis of the Scriptures.
I would like to add, however, some comments regarding your odd view of the word 'abomination.' Your argument rests not on the text, but on the consistency of your opponents. This is an ad-hominem argument. Their consistency or lack thereof has no bearing on the validity of your claim. Also, there ARE Christian groups who live by the dietary regulations of the Old Testament and certainly Orthodox Jews live by them, too.
In addition, there is a clear distinction in the text as to what constitutes an abomination to God, and what God wanted His people to view as an abomination to *them.* When the Scriptures state an activity is an abomination to God, then the act is in violation of God's moral law, not a violation of ceremonial regulations which the New Testament tells us is a "shadow" of what was fulfilled in Christ.
Of course, what I've typed is common knowledge among Christians. I find it odd you left that out of your "analysis."
One more thing I'd like to add. The human male body was not made for sexual relations with men. I don't need to graphically describe this, but it's obvious biologically that males are designed for procreation and that can only occur heterosexually.
The same goes with females. Those ovaries are there for a reason. Sorry, but the science is against you.
**Edit**
I see you added a comment merely restating your position. Insisting you're right does not make you right (or anybody else for that matter). You were given substantive arguments which you ignore altogether and restate your position. Rational people accept logical arguments. If you don't want to believe the Bible or be a Christian, that's your business; but please quit calling people uninformed or ignorant because they have logical arguments in response to your allegations.

Those who lean unto there own understanding of scripture are leading others astray and blinded by their "pride!" But this has to occur for the Kingdom of God is coming to this earth and establish His way as the only way.
Pride is man's downfall. The End of the circle of man's self rule will be the beginning of Christ's Kingdom but that "pride" must be broken first!

I am a Christian, a follower of Christ.
You are quite right regarding when the word homosexual was first use; however. Greek society was bisexual. What word did they use to convey same sex relationship?
I suggest you read Leviticus to see what the ban of same sex relationships are. It is describe in very precise language.
Just because on language creates a word for this, do not expect the concept not to be earlier.

All very true.
the sins of Sodom had nothing to do with sex and are just what you describe.
Homosexuality- the sexual attraction of one man to another is not a sin.
The actions you described were abominations not because the items themselves were bad, but how they were deeming to the person.
to consume something that is a bottom feeder, to eat with idol worshipers or emulate them in any way, to give less than your very best as a sacrifice, or to act in a way unbecoming of a refined human being. Are all abominations because they derogate the person.
The same is true of anal sex, it is not done for the propose of procreation, but rather for pure pleasure. It reduces a human to that of the level of an animal.
It is an abomination because it diminishes what man is.
And no I am not a Christian, I am Jewish

This Christian knows the word of God...and the "spin" you are trying to put on the word of God is just that; an attempt to alter what is clear.
Homosexuality is a sin against God. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for their immoral behavior. You are not the first, nor will you be the last, to attempt to wrest God's word. Fortunately, millions of bible believing Christians stand on His word....and will not compromise it.

Romans 1: 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

That is what so ironic about Christians: Many of them never actually read the whole of their "true word of God"
edit: Actually, I was responding to "If a Christian believes that the Bible is the word of God, why don't they really know what it says?", not about the original Bible's definition of "homosexuality". Whichever the version it is, it's in denial.
In fact, I must remind you the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. I'm not talking about the true definition here, calling homosexuality an abhorrent act is wrong and ignorant

God is holy. He tells us what is Good and acceptable. Since He abhors evil and speaking of evil then just the mere absence or any reference to the term shows that he is against it. When You know what is good then you can know or can discern what is not good.

I know enough to know homosexual practices are a particular heinous crime against God. Care to debate? Turn from abomination and seek God. Your time is short. Lay aside your foolishness and seek love and truth. Don't trifle, you are not strong enough. Seek, so you may know His truth.
