You are an atheist (without God--theos) if you do not believe in the revelation. The revelation as spoken by the prophets documented in the bible.

You have heard the word of God, but simply do not believe it. It has nothing to do with organized religion, although organized religion may help.

Your question has nothing to do with atheism. An atheist can be part of an organized religion, believe in the afterlife, and play basketball. As long as they don't believe in any gods, they are an atheist.

You could easily be if you thought that the continuance of a soul, or moving to a different plane of existence was an inherent property of nature/human beings without requiring an active deity.

Belief in reincarnation or natural forces can shade into Pantheism or Gaian concepts: where the border lies, I'd hate to say.

Technically, theism / atheism is about deity. You can believe in an afterlife based on naturalistic preservation of organized energy. This would be an example of an non-theistic afterlife.

Atheism is defined as “the absence of belief in god/gods.” Anything beyond that definition is open for belief by an atheist, including life after death.

Yes, I know. The label "Atheist" seems too broad for many of us

As it is, it sounds like you're in the same boat as me...

The Greek word "theos" meant God but "a-theos" would mean no-God. But that does not necessarily prohibit an afterlife......................... But it certainly makes it strange, unless you hold to some believe like life is circular and repeats itself.
