Many Atheists parents are Christians. They learn to live with it. For the most part they don't put up much of a fuss after the child reaches adulthood. Small Children have to follow their parents wishes of course.

By children- you have to specify their ages. I remember when I was about 12 I felt that organized religion did not suit me, despite the fact my mother is a devout christian. For some it is just a phase of rebellion for the time, but now at 19 I find myself still heavily questioning, but feel a sense of a greater power- just not necessarily in an organized religion sense. Christian values are important to the history of the United States, but they shouldn't influence the government to the point it has. Christian values are important to the society because they offer a standard of morals for others to value, but then again religion in general is vital to the moral success of any society (that's why its imperative to explore other world religions-). Again, it depends on how old your children are and specifically why and how you are classifying atheist- but listen to the reasons behind their lack of religious beliefs and expose them to not only christianity, but other faiths of the world-

Well, I can preceed that question a bit.
It could ONLY be their adult children. And in that case, who knows what the close-minded christians would do.
But if you speak of their children still at home, heh...they can't be Atheists...most religous families I know force their children to go to church to have that crap crammed down their throats whether they like it or not.
I wonder....
Does anyone here think it's ok for a daddy to beat on his kid to teach him to take a punch?
No?
Then why does god commit or let happen the atrocities that occur on a daily basis? To test us? To test our faith. I would never serve a god/father like that. And I suspect most people would have a father that beats his kids arrested.
Good Luck.

Whatever religious denomination (or lack thereof) my children choose to believe in, is totally up to them.
It is not up to a parent to decide how their children think. We have to give them information and options and let them make decisions for themselves.
As long as my children are happy in life - I couldn't care less.

Im not a Christian, was an atheist, I dont know what to believe right now.
But im going to ask you NOT to force ANYTHING on them. Just teach them good values. You dont have to say, YOUR GOING TO HELL IF YOU DON'T DO THIS (no offence), but if you teach them good values, to love THEMSELVES as well as others (for one cannot love others if they do not love themselves) then they should be fine. God is Love, it says so in the Bible by the way. Teach them to Love, it is not your position to show them God, it is between them and God and no one else. You cannot force them into a relationship with God.

My children have been raised to know about religion. If they choose not to believe, that is their chose. I have no control over that. It doesn't mean I'll disown them. They are my children and I'll always love them. But I'll respect their chose. Even though I will not agree with them.

i know its hard learning to get along with people who have different beliefs than you, but you need to remember that they have their life and you have yours. Let them be themselves....trust me, they will respect you if you respect them. I know a lot of teens who are atheists for a while because they are trying to figure things out on their own, but when they find out who ther are and become comfortable with their lifestyle, they start to believe in God again. Let your children find their own path to God.

I think if children are brought up in a religious environment, then that's what they will grow up believing, if however they decided to have their own opinion about things when they got older, then It would not bother me one bit, yes its my child, but I dont own her thoughts or her mind, she is her own person.
I would love her either way.
besides who am I to say what the truth is, until I have a face to face conversation with god, I will not try to sway anyones beliefs, thats called brain washing.

I'd pray for them and try to feel the situation out to see if I could bring it up and discuss it without being offensive, but ultimately the choice would be theirs and I would respect that.
