If the kids like you, & you are nice to them, and spend quality time with them, then you won't need to discipline. Bring fun things for them to do! Kids this age love to draw, color, watch good cartoons, or Disney movies, Animal Planet, and America's Funniest Videos. They also like to play kiddie board games like Candyland. They also like to put together puzzles the kind with the larger pieces. And some kids like to play video games. If you partcipate and interact with them, then you really should not have to discipline. However, if you have had issues in the past with them, talk to the parents about these issues and get the parents perspective on the situation. Sometimes all it may take is a parent to mention to them, "if you kids act up, you will have to deal with us when we come home!" ***You must also remember, you are there to be with the children... not on the computor, or on the phone the whole time. This is why you are getting paid, to babysit and spend the time with the children, not with their appliances!

make them sit it out 1 minute for every year they're born. Also, I had the phone number to wherever the parents were, and they would call themselves. I interacted with them. My sister and I babysat together a lot. We never had any trouble. We were watching movies, playing games, cooking ......not super-glued to a cell-phone. Also, we didn't have boyfriends coming over after the parents left. Sometimes, we would have 9 kids to babysit ! The parents AND their friends, would all be going out to dance and my sister and I would get paid a lot ! We took care of all those kids safely, and all in one house ! Kids use to be more respectful, without the attitudes they have today. I let kids know real quick they will not use certain words, hit, etc....or I WILL call your parents (tell them that). I agree with "mjen". If the children turn out to be uncivilized and the parents think it's o.k., don't babysit for them anymore.

Hello there

As a teacher i would definately go with steps. Such as time out for a short period of time. However let your little charges know that time out only begins when they sit quietly for the whole time out period if not their time out begins again. Yes they may be in "time out" for what seems 20 to 40 minutes but once they sits still for five minutes ( any longer is far too long) then remove them from time out. This method has worked effectively with Speial Needs Students. Good luck and happy babysitting :)

No, i do no longer imagine a babysitter ought to EVER bodily punish a baby. Do the day out section you reported and then record any severe complications to the dad and mom at the same time as they go back and they can self-discipline their personal young ones as they see fit... you're establishing your self up right here. in case you do it with the incorrect relatives, you would possibly want to finally end up in vast problem your self.

Well my little brother is 5 so it's really hard for him to listen. You have to somehow engage them to do a certain thing..you can use games I guess...for example if they won't eat their food, you could be like "Whoever finished their food first will get desert/prize. You can also try to make them feel a little guilty if they did something wrong. Don't be too strict, add some "fun" to how you babysit and they'll listen to you more. You can also keep them occupied with coloring, cartoons etc.

time out, have them do some chores or have them go to their room. You can also ask the parents. Just explain that you had some problems last time you babysat and asked them what to do.

Oh wow you got some not nice answers.
But the parents should have told you what they want you to do. If not timeouts and standards seem to work.

Its not your responisbility to discipline the children you baby sit. Before the parents leave ask them what you should do if the children act up. Remind me not to hire you to baby sit my kids.
