I do not believe that alcoholism is a disease, people have the power to quit whenever they want to, as they say where there is a will there is a way. I do know that it causes diseases.

Yes, alcoholism is a disease. The craving that an alcoholic feels for alcohol can be as strong as the need for food or water. An alcoholic will continue to drink despite serious family, health, or legal problems.
Like many other diseases, alcoholism is chronic, meaning that it lasts a person's lifetime; it usually follows a predictable course; and it has symptoms. The risk for developing alcoholism is influenced both by a person's genes and by his or her lifestyle.

Yes. Alcoholism is a chronic, often progressive disease with symptoms that include a strong need to drink despite negative consequences, such as serious job or health problems. Like many other diseases, it has a generally predictable course, has recognized symptoms, and is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors that are being increasingly well defined.

Alcoholism is actually an allergy to alcohol. It works in a different way than normal allergies. With this allergy you can not get enough of alcohol so you can not stop drinking it. You need to be seen by a doctor and go into rehab to stop drinking alcohol for good. It is a day by day process.

It could be. I learned in neurobiology class that alcoholics have many more D2 (Dopamine type 2) receptors than non-alcoholics; this could make the withdrawal stronger/harder. This provides evidence for the theory that it is a disease.

I think it is a disease. The only cure for it is complete abstinence from drinking. People that have this disease should be pitied more than disliked. They can't help their actions, a drug has taken hold of them and it has control over them.

Many people think so. People with addictive personalities are particularly prone to it. Also people raised in an enabling alcoholic environment are prone to it. It's a vicious cycle.

Opinions differ, but that is all they are--opinions. It doesn't matter to me if it is a disease, a condition, a syndrome or stale fried potatoes as long as I am not drinking.
