Yogurt is a living culture of beneficial organisms. Do they live indefinitely? What happens if they get old and die, perhaps running out of nutrients?

The yogurt can hardly go sour like milk, because it is already sour.

I am talking about real yogurt, not the sweetened junk with syrupy fruit flavors added.

I once bought up a bunch of yogurt that was sold at 10 cents per tub because it was past its expiration date. Well, it tasted just the same as if it were fresh on the shelf.

Everything expires eventually, except Twinkies I was told! Dairy is particularly at risk. Always read the expiration dates and follow them. Better to be safe than sorry.

Next time you buy a bunch of tubs, throw them in the freezer. Frozen yoghurt is a great treat and the active cultures [if your yoghurt has them, again: read those lables!] will not be adversely affected.

Yogurt does eventually go bad after a certain amount of time just like milk, but it doesn't necessarily go bad within a day, maybe within a week after the expiration date or a few days after opening.

Check your taste buds, cause yogurt does go bad with age.

What do think they are like women. Ever hear of the expression "Women don't get older, they just get BETTER"

i would definitely not risk getting food poisoning from eating expired yogurt. Buy some fresh yogurt.

I've smelled old yogurt and it doesn't smell pleasant

I always go by the:' if it tastes alright then it's good' with yogart, I don't usually have a problem with it unless it tastes (or smells) off =)

So as long as it's in a few days of the date, and everything seems to smell and taste okay, I'd say go for it!
