any dye drys out any type of hair not just African American hair...you should either get it done professional at a salon that is used to clients with your hair texture or you can select shades custom for African American women such as shades on the B side good luck

Using A Pre-Color Conditioner (L'OREAL Pre-Color Primer, Sold In Beauty Supplies) And A Good Post- Conditioner Will Greatly Reduce (Or Eliminate) Dryness, And Prevent Fading Use With FERIA® By L'OREAL® OR EXCELENCE® Creme. CLAIROL® HYDRIENCE™ Is Another Excellent Choice.

Try Clairol Textures and Tones. My hair is very course and thick but I find that that type of color doesn't break it off. After you rinse the color out use Herbal Essences deep conditioner for colored/dry/permed hair. It will make your hair feel so soft. Hope this helps!

Or you could get add-ons in a bright color and braid them into your hair. I have a black friend who does that and she looks awesome.
