vista basic can be 512 but i have home preminum right now and a gb and sometimes it laggs and acts really slow id recomend at least a gb but im going to upgrade and get another gb soon

yes ,to run vista properly you need 1 GB of RAM. But not only the RAM which matters. Some features of VISTA , such as the AERO interface,needs a good graphics card also. Goodbye.

Minimum System Requirements:
1 gigabyte of RAM
I would install 2 gigs of ram.

512mb is ok, but, i recomend you 1gb memory min. to take advance to other greats features!!!
