My best friend and i have been close for about three years. We just recenrtly found out that we feel the same way about each other but decided not to committ to a relationship because it's crazy time in our lives right now. It turns out he's always liked me this whole time and i had no clue. He told me that if he wants something serious and long lasting with me.

Nowadays, he'll "fish" for answers concerning other guys and always ask, "if i go out with someone, theoretically speaking, how would you feel..." I keep telling him to do it but why does he care? If he likes the other girl, then he should. This is interesting, then he said, "well, if me and some girl break up, at least i know you'll always be there..." (as a friend)

We have such a cool history together - we've been best friends - soo close, can talk to each other about everything and yet this whole time we've liked each other and didn't know.

Does he still love me? and why is he doing this?

He could be just testing you out, to see how much you really love him.

What can be the factors of what you call "crazy times in our lives?" Isn't that the time that good friends need one another the most? Try being honest and sincere not just with each other but with yourselves as well and learn to say it like it is. After all, you have come to know one another enough to be able to speak freely and comfortably to one another. Appreciate your friendship which is often the best foundation for a deeper or more intimate relationship. The one thing to avoid is to begin to take for granted the fact that even a 3-yr. old friendship is immune to it. Love comes in many forms but true love commands respect, which allows for honest communication. If you don't know something, be enough of a friend to ask for clarification and vice-versa.

Well the good thing is that the feeling is mutual so you should just go for it and see what happens

Yeah, he loves you big time. That's why he can't let it go.
