I know, I know, I shouldn't smoke...but the point is I don't very often so I keep a pack around and it gets stale. I usually stick in the freezer, is there a better way?

Yes, smoking is very bad for your health and those around you. It's also expensive!

I've needed to do testing with commercial and reference cigarettes and keeping them in decent condition is a challenge. There are tobacco mite eggs that hatch out and destroys the texture, airflow, and probably to a lesser degree, the flavor of the smoke. The cigarette manufacturing process does not kill off the eggs. Sometimes you may find a pack that's been around for several months at room temperature and the tobacco will be sort of mushy inside the paper due to mite activity. Additionally, the aromatics and flavor additives will slowly volatilize out of the tobacco.

The best you can do is to put them in ziplock bags, squeeze out the air, seal, and store in a deep freezer until you need them. The cold temperature prevents the mites from hatching and lowers the vapor pressure of the desirable flavor and aroma components.

I am a fellow smoker and I don't smoke often either.(1 pack lasts 2 weeks!) Once I open them i place them in a ziplock bag and then put them in the freezer. And at 3 cigs a day they stay fresh!!!

Put them in a zip-lock bag in the freezer. They keep forever.

I hear the trash can is an excellent preservative. It also does a phenominal job in making sure that that 'safety pack' never gets used

My suggestion would be to either give up or take it up as a dirty filthy habit.

Guess what I'd choose ?
