Elite light infantry. Some of the meanest mutha fu$#@rs in world.

These are the guys they had sail up in little open-topped landing craft - while the Germans were shooting at them, scale up the cliffs - while the Germans were shooting at them, kill the Germans, take their weapons, then destroy their artillery.

They did it.

I've given you some links - They are some of the finest light infantry soldiers in history with a VERY long tradition going back to the US Revolution.

They're the folks who did the raid to rescue 500+ allied POWs in the Philippines in WWII...

TOUGH. SMART. Absolutely dedicated. Insanely well trained. Indomintable willpower.

Not all Rangers are Airborne qualified - but just about all of them are.

Rangers do long range recon missions, they do fast assault missions, they do a VERY wide range of combat missions. In Blackhawk Down, it was the Rangers who provided mission security for the Delta Operators. They are raiders, scouts, and fighters to the core.

Hooah!

You have to pass Ranger school and to even be accepted in the Ranger school you must pass a very difficult fitness test.

You must be willing to jump from airplanes and repel from helicopters. They also go on long road marches (hikes) with heavy rucksacks (backpacks). It is very important to work as a team because some of the tasks in Ranger school can not be accomplished alone. You also must be mentally tough because you can not quit in combat when things get tough. Face it that is what you would be training to do is to go into combat!

Rangers are part of the Special Operations Command. They are the long range fighters who operate in some of the most austere environments to attack the enemy deep.

You have to be incredibly fit and mentally stable because you are operating in small groups and have to think fast and be very organized. These guys are some of the toughest in the Army.

You don't have to be tough to get it but you have to be tough to stay in.
