It depends for what. 90% of the advantages go to NYC over NJ, but if you are just comparing the states (and not include NYC), then they are about the same. That 3.6% city income tax can just kill you.

Culturally, theatrically, personally, economically, politically, socially, geographically, and in terms of simple amazingness, New York is better. Does New Jersey have Broadway? Does New Jersey have that world where you can be invisible one second and a star the next? Does New Jersey have the best geographic system in North America? Does New Jersey mean anything to the eight million people who reside in New York City and live, eat, sleep and breathe in it every day?
