Ok so ky parants divorced when I was two after that me and my mom and older brother moved out of the state and then my dad was out of my life for about 7 years or longer granted the situation that arose when we moved didn't help any. my dad came back and the stuff we did was fun and I like what we did but I never really got to know my dad I went down to where my dad lives for the summer one year and he stuck me in a youth camp for the majority of the summer didn't get to know him!!! lately he has been lectureing me about things that I all ready know about. and it is driving me crazy!!! I love my dad I really do but I don't know should I tell him that I don't need him to tell me this or what do I do?

It's kind of hard because I've been in those situations. When I used to tell my step-dad that I already knew stuff that he used to lecture me about, talking a hole in my head for 3 hrs. straight, having me stand up the whole time & listen, rather than sit down. That was torture! When I told him I already knew, he thought I just didn't wanna hear his speech or just was being rebellious. If I were you, I'd just pretend to listen by letting it go in one ear & out the other. That's how you gotta play that game.

Well after all he is still your dad, maybe he is trying to make up for lost time.If you are old enough let him know that although you appreciate his concern, you can do without the drilling.It will be difficult to deal with, but it might be worth the time to listen, maybe that;s his way of trying to get to know you.

He is just trying to be a good dad, cut him some slack. It won't kill you to hear what he has to say. You may get a different prospective on some things.

Frist off you did get to know you dad look were he send you camp so what dose that say about him. I would till him he sould have been doing all that lectureing you back when you come to get to know him. but you sended your time in camp. that what i would till my dad if it was me.

just take it all in stride but tell him how you feel and that how you would like to spend more time with hi in the future because you like to get to know him as your dad and see what he says
