legal green card migrant workers should be forced to learn English
illegal aliens that are criminals must be deported regardless of their holdings and position.
ex: if they have a house a job and kids here it is no longer an excuse to be here so they should move back now or suffer the hardship of their family being broken up
also they risk foreclosure and loosing their house .
so if they sell now and leave they stand a better Chance in the land they love the land they came from the place they proudly raise a flag for on united states soil.

I think ''forced'' is a strong word. I can understand where you're comoing from and it it would certainly help with intergration, but immigrants still contribute to society in a huge way without speaking English.
Immigrants receive a huge amount of bad feeling generated by a sensationalist right wing press and the vast majority dont deserve it (before anyone asks, im British born and bred, serving in the forces, so im certainly no bleeding heart liberal).
Immigrants are the future of the Western world, the sooner we realise that the better we can intergrate them and make them feel and actually be truly British/ American/ Canadian/ whereever.........

Let's assume we're talking about the UK for a minute.
Immigrants should be strongly encouraged to learn English, for their own sake. It will make functioning in UK very difficult without adequate English. Most immigrants would welcome this - many choose to come to UK simply because they already speak English.
Our Welsh friend above wants to send them all back. Does he include the many, many Welsh people who have emigrated to England in search of a better life? Aren't they economic migrants?
Why should any UK immigrant have to pledge alliegance to the flag? Those of us born here don't. Many of us would refuse to pledge alliegance to a flag, or indeed to a herediary monarch!
I believe immigration enriches the culture of a country and that UK is currently a vibrant place to live. Sure, as with any system some abuse it. Haven't the indiginous population managed to abuse systems quite adequately?
Is someone unjustly drawing benefits any better because he was born in Kettering, not Kosovo?

Yes. If they are coming to America. My great grandparents had to learn english to survive in this country so migrants should have to learn it too. It is the language of the land and the language that business is conducted in, so it will actually help migrants in the long run. Hope this helps :) However, remember not all migrants are legal and if they are here illegally. they need to leave. Since you said that they have a pledge of citizenship, i welcome them because they are coming the right way :)

First I'll correct your English.... I beleive you meant "Immigrants" not Migrants. If you come to this country and stay and/or become a U.S. Citizen you are an Immigrant!
Most citizens of this country are from immigrant descent. Imigrant is not a "bad word" Migrant however is degrading and servile!
In further answer "YES" I think it is great to speak more than one language. However, if you plan to be in any country perminantly you MUST speak the language of that country!
The language of this country is English! We have no room here for anyone who wants to be a perminant resident if that individual does not speak the language! Also, to remain here you MUST dissavow any allegence to any foreign government and promise to hold in the highest esteem and defend the USA! "Pleadge Allegence"
GET IT..... OR GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm confused, is this an question for the UK of the USA? Strange as I thought that this was a British board and it seems to be taken over by the Yanks as usual.
However here in Britain/England immigrants should not be required to have English but be able to pass an exam in basic English, all members of the family too. that would stop the Muslims from marginalising their women by keeping them ignorant of British affairs and culture.

its fine to ask migrants to learn and speak english.
but will the migrants will ever be treated equally or given the same high class jobs as the english, well i dont think so.
if migrants are forced to learn english then the english people should be forced to be treated like english people as well.
migrants will always be called migrants.

Yes! if there is to be integration in this country every colour and creed should speak English, when I am out shopping and I live in a big Asian community area I hardly hear any of them speaking English. My point is if they cannot be understood by English speaking people how on earth can we all integrate as one nation.

YES!! Absolutely!! Americans who want to live in almost any
other country, are REQUIRED to learn the language of that
country. If migrants want to live in the U.S.A., they MUST
learn the language!! Or they can just go back home!!

Yes, in their pledges of citizenship, because our language is English. It was the same for all other immigrants who entered this country. What makes you so different?
