Just wondering if I am on active duty in the air force, will I be able to access the internet? Do they have computers on all bases? Can I bring my laptop on base? What are the rules on this topic?

As was said, you aren't being cut off from civilization just cause you're in the military. As long as you are willing to pay for it, you can have it in your dorms or in your home of course once you move off. All bases have internet access, including public access in the base libraries and internet cafes (mostly overseas). I am currently in Iraq and we have free internet cafes, free internet at the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation), free internet at work (obviously), and we have the option of paying per month for access in our trailers (this will depend upon where you're stationed).

As far as computers in your work center, they have internet as well but you are limited to using it for official use only. I know your other post was regarding college courses; whether or not you can use those computers for school will be up to your work center.

As for your laptop, yes you can bring it on base, but as was mentioned, if you work in a classified area, you will *not* be allowed to bring a laptop or any other type of electronic or media into your office.

The military doesn't totally cut you off from civilization.

Yes, you'll still have access to the internet. Depending on your job, you may be on the internet all day.

If you live in the dorms, it's just like an apartment, except you don't pay rent. But most bases now require you to pay for your internet and cable services.
Same with base housing.
Of course, base libraries will have internet access as well.

Yes, while on active duty you do have access to the internet. Obviously, you can't be emailing home constantly because you're on active duty to actually do something. But there is time to do it. I'm pretty sure you can bring your laptop, if not they have computers there.

yes, you should have access regularly. a lot of guys have computers in there rooms. i know air force basic training is pretty lenient, but i would not expect to have access until that is over. also, your access will be limited if you are in a war zone but you will still be able to use the internet some. you will still have access at many us installations around the world.
