There are several big National Hunt meetings, it is just that Cheltenham is the most well known. Most people in the street don't realise that the Grand National Meeting runs for 3 days (Thurs-Sat) as they all focus on the big race. The King George meeting at Kempton lasts for 2 days (26th & 27th December). The Imperial Cup meeting at Sandown is for two days; Newbury hold several important 3 day meetings throughout the year.

Cheltenham is important as it gives a horse a chance to prove his ability over hurdles or jumps over the varying distances. Cheltenham is a very difficult track to race around, much like Epsom for the Derby, some horses love it, others hate it.

Don't run jumps racing down, both flat and jumps are as good as each other and we racing fans should support both.

What about the three days at Aintree, and the Christmas festival at Kempton? Cheltenham is really the Championship of the year, when the best of the best go head to head. There are other 2 day, and 3 day jump meets throughout the year in both England and Ireland.

I do not know, other than the lack of jump racers to run more than 4 days worth of jump racing, and that, based on the distance they tend to run, the weight they carry, and all that jumping and running, it tends to take alot out of them. Don't forget the Grand National later in the spring.
