Alot of kids now a days are enjoying playing hold em with a group of friends.. Every Saturday night we have a hold em tournament here at the house.. We invite a few friends and they in turn invite a few and before you know it there are 10-15 people here.. We keep the thing smalll as far as the betting goes.. Maybe a 5$ entry and you get 1500 worth of chips. Usually we pay two spots which if you have 10 players the pay out will be 40 for 1st place and 10 for second place.. The game goes on for a long time and everyone enjoys themselves.. Figure where else can you only pay 5$ and have a night of fun? Think about it mom?? Your son is home and he has friends over and they have fun and have a chance of winning a few bucks.

What is the subject that interests him the most? He could read up on that. Did he ever think about what he'd like to do with his life after school etc. It's not too early to begin thinking about this as it would allow him to have an early start at being the best of anything he'd really enjoy doing. If he's not sure about anything, the first 3 chapters of the book of Proverbs provide so much food for thought that it kept my son meditating hours about it and finally fell asleep with the bible on his chest and had the best sleep in a long time.

Does he have any unfinished homework? Are the dishes washed? Does the carpet need vacuuming? Is his room clean. A few household chores might teach him some respect. After the house is clean, why not tell him to spend some time with his friends. Most 17 year olds are usually out with friends on Saturday nights.

Have him get on Yahoo answers and interact. It will give him a chance to learn about many problems life might throw at him and see the views of others so that he can learn to make wise decisions of his own. Also it is a great learning experience.
Answering questions will give him practice in effective communication of ideas and let him exercise his ability to share knowledge, counter ideas with which he dissagrees, etc...

Suggest a list of chores to do. Watch how fast he finds something "better" to do. Boredom will be over.
