heat foods in microwaves or use soft drink bottles to freeze water because it may contaminate both with toxins that are released from the plastic? Has anyone else heard this?

yeah, its true they are small amounts....but they do build up in your fatty tissues....and lets face it....microscopic amounts of cyanide will kill you. We are just lucky these things dont stop autonomic functions nearly so well....
Though they do mess with your hormones like few other things.
I've decided to ditch the plastic plates....but man its hard to get drinks that aren't in plastic.
Why dont you say we start creating a buzz and get everyone to start wanting drinks in glass?

Hello:

Yes,I have heard the same thing that you are talking about,in fact,I have received several e-mails about not heating up plastic dishes in the microwave or using plastic soft drink bottles to freeze water in. The reason being is because it is strongly suggested that it using plastic or heating your food in plastic can be or has shown to cause breast cancer in women and possibly some other types of cancers in both men and women too. I NEVER reheat anything in a plastic container in my microwave oven and I NEVER drink bottled water because it is in a plastic bottle. Some people may just brush this off as a bunch of non-sense but I take it VERY SERIOUSLY because I have had alot of women die in my family from breast, bone, and brain cancer, and I am seriously wondering if it could have been prevented if they wouldn't have used plastic containers to store their food in and then reheat the food in the plastic containers in the microwave oven??

I do both of these things, and why not? Even if it is proven that the plastic does release toxins, guess what....The additives and such that you find in almost all non-organic food are already doing a number on your insides. Besides, between toxins, perservatives and modern medicine, man has enjoyed the longest life span recorded since biblical times. Maybe these so-called "toxins" are actually helping to keep you alive longer.

I use glass dishes when I reheat in the microwave most of the time

I dont use plastic wrap to cover my food in the microwave anymore. Saran Wrap was invented way before microwaves and i dont trust that they have made it safe for microwaves yet.

There is truth to this but it's a minuscule amount of toxins-and how important is it to you not to do those things?
