stay on the antibiotics. this is just a further development in the infection. It will take time for you to reach and maintain a therapeutic blood level of the antibiotic. It should subside soon. As always, alert your DR about this, as he may wish to alter the treatment plan. The infection must be gone prior to the extraction, so stay on top of this one.

Let me see if I understand: you had an abscess and went to your dentist. You got an antibiotic and have been taking it the way you were instructed. And now your face is more swollen?
If that's right, you need to be seen by your dentist again. Now. You may need a different antibiotic. You may need to have the abscess opened and drained. You should be feeling a bit better by now, not worse.
Do not wait; this is not "normal" and it will not resolve on its own. Do not wait until Friday.
It is ok to call your dentist over the weekend. There is likely someone "on call" who may see you, call in a new prescription, or make arrangements for you to be seen first thing Monday morning.
In the meantime, continue the antibiotic until your dentist tells you otherwise. You can rinse with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 1 cup warm water) 4-5 times daily. Do not use warm compresses on your face unless specifically told to by your dentist. This can often cause more harm than good.
Try to keep eating: soft foods, lots of liquids. Milkshakes, pudding, soups, etc.
Do not wait!

Don't have your tooth removed yet. It's going to be painful. The anesthesia will not be effective. Take a complete 7 to 10 day course of the oral antibiotics with an anti_inflammatory drug. If you can tolerate it, you may ask for a shot of parenteral antibiotic like Penicillin 1.2u after a negative skin testing to control the infection. It is painful but I was told it will control possible complication like the infection going to the brain. I experienced the same condition & after 5 days I have my tooth removed.

I have the same exact problem right now! Ive been taking 4 Ibuprofen every 3 hrs and it barely works. I went to dentist Monday and was in chair for 2 1/2 hrs. The pain is getting worse! Im also on clindamycin. I had a partial root canal in dec. to temporarily help with the pain. When I went to the dentist Mon. he could not get all of the old filling out of the root and it is now stuck at the bottom of the root. I was told I could either see a specialist and they would cut in the gum line to remove the piece of filling or have root canal finished and possibly need surgery down the road. I am calling the dentist now to see if they can help. Please let me know if you get any answers. This pain is the worst Ive ever had:(

The infection is too far gone now for antibiotics. You need to see someone as soon as possible. Infection that bad will cause blood poisoning and put you in hospital on an IV drip. While there is that much infection invovled they will not remove the tooth so you need to clean up that first.
