It is true that the more cardio exercise you do the more calories you burn, technically the more weight you would lose. However, if those numbers fall below your metabolic rate then your body shuts down the process and your weight loss is now at a stand still to such a point where your workouts aren't worth doing. Same with dieting. Cutting out all food to the point of starvation results in body storage of any nutrients it receives and stops usage as much as possible.
Also remember that over cardio loses not just fat, but muscle as well. to prevent this, do some weight training along with the cardio. do your cardio before and/or after workout. for losing weight, best done first thing in the morning before even a drink.

Overkill. 45 minutes to an hour is plenty. Walking after meals helps a lot. Technique goes much further than becoming a gym junkie.
Switching from coffee to green and/or black tea is an easy five pounds gone in a week or two. increased fiber intake also works wonders. I swear by Fiber One cereal.
Lay off beer, cheap bread, (go to 100% whole wheat) and get a good nights sleep every night. This also adds to the results. Eat or snack on something low cal every couple of hours. Do these things collectively and you will enjoy fast results without throwing your life away at the gym.

I think it is possible to get addicted to exercise and to overdo it.
Probably you can do more than is often suggested — e.g., an hour a day of exercise in the gym, plus something different (like long walks) on the weekend. But that is enough.
Couple this with a nutritional program, balanced, healthy and disciplined. And look to lose weight over a long period of time using a lifestyle routine that you can maintain. That way, you'll replace fat with muscle, and will gradually take off weight and reshape your body — and be able to keep the weight off (rather than becoming a weight-loss weight-gain yo-yo person).

Well of course. Say if you worked out for an hour a day for a month, you lose 5 pounds. Now if you worked out for 3 hours a day for a month, you lose 15 pounds. That's all estimates, however. It's simple arithmetic, my dear.

well, the point in exercising to lose weight is that it burns calories. to lose weight, your energy output (how much energy your body uses) needs to be greater than your intake (how much calories you consume). Exercising will usually help ppl accomplish this. Not to mention it's GREAT for your physical and mental health!
