I suggest you start with the United Way. They have all sorts of different connections to various non-profit agencies that individuals and families can utilize for support.

if its for an assignment ask to interview many area help centers and the local human services. weather its about where people can get certain things, to how do they qualify or not qualify. here is one i try to get answered and get the run around. how is it that married couples with 1 or 2 income that total still low get less than a single person who makes the same money. what types of people get more and why, also ask why is it that when the economy gets expensive they don't help by adjusting the help to keep the families afloat.for instance gas and electric went up and yet pay didn't , but the assistance stayed the same as well. my help place gives a cap amount for a utility cost total average of only 240.00 a month, that amount is my gas bill alone sense the rate hicks. the reason i speak like this is because i have been fighting for the unfairness toward married verses single, as well as the states help needs to change some of their qualifications directions.

sorry for venting.good luck and god bless.

Most counties have United Way and an organization called Consumer Credit Counseling Service that might help you make a budget and bet the most from your earnings. United Way can tell you in services you might qualify to receive. The local Dept. of Social Services can tell you if you qualify for daycare assistance, food stamps, or medicaid.

your town should have a Red Cross somewhere nearby. In my area they will help with the electric bill twice a year. Check with the county courthouse to see if they know of any help. Local churches often will give if they know of your need. You may have Angeltree Ministries which give groceries. Keep an eye on your local paper if at all possible because these organizations advertise. Best wishes.

Your best bet is to visit your local social service office they will be able to tell you everything you are eligible for and how to apply. Trust me I've been there. You can even make an anonymous call to find out.
