If your cell phone has only a single band it will be good for the US and Japan. Australia uses a different band.

Make sure your phone is a tri band phone, and unlocked. When you get here, buy a pre paid sim card so you arent paying the roaming fees.

if you are talking a cell phone it depends. First check with your carrier and second our phones use a different bandwitdth, some phones are tri band and others are not.

Landline, yes (although you may have to use an adapter to connect it -- they're cheap). Cell phone, unlikely; check with your cellular carrier to see.
