I think that is from the movie "The Eagle Has Landed." It was about WW2 and a plot to kidnap Churchill.

no idea where it originates. seems to be one of those pop culture (actually, dork culture!) phenomena ...

'the eagle [or any other kind of bird] flies north at midnight' is taken as an archetypal secret code phrase - as might be exchanged as an identification signal between spies.

but you probably already knew that.

if it ain't The Simpsons, it's anybody's guess.
