My daughter has dark hair and also a widow's peak. BUT I have been told by dermatologists that it is NOT a widow's peak and that it is a disease called Trichotillomania but that is someone who pulls out their own hair and my daughter does not. Does a widow's peak have anything to do with receding hairline? I have two other family members who have the same thing, does this mean they have Trichotillomania? Also, is this widow's peak something that should be removed by a laser or left alone?

dematologist is wrong.
a widow's peak is genetic an inherited trait.
i have one, as did my mom, my grandmother, my aunt, my grandfather....
....it makes my hairline unique.
no laser.
.leave it alone it's natural.
change dematologists.

I personally think that a widow's peak is really cute. I really wish I had one. I'm pretty sure it is hereditary...but it is NOT a receding hair line. I have lots of friends with a widows peak and they love it and so do I. I think only one has tried to cover it, and she just parted her hair to the side. the family members with the widows peak is explained by the fact that it is hereditary. Very common, and VERY cute :)

I would definitely get a second opinion. Widow's Peaks are fairly common - it is a genetic thing. In England, it is believed that a woman with a widow's peak will outlive her husband LOL

Trichotillomania is a type of obsessive / compulsive disorder and usually applies to all hair. Does your daughter pull out her eyebrows? Most "trichsters" (as sufferers call themselves) have no or disfigured eyebrows.

A widows peak is a recessive genetic trait. if someone else in your family has one, then she can have one. I would not remove it. I would be like cutting the ends off your earlobes because they are detached from you head. it is just who she is and has nothing to do with receding hairline

if she pulled the hair out to CREATE a widows peak meaning she left a certain little peak of hair out of her pulling, then im guessing she has the disease, but being born with the growth pattern of a widows peak is nothing dangerous at all. is she irish? its kind of an irish trait. i have one.

Oh wow. I have one too and I am interested. It's hereditary and as most people said, shouldn't be removed. If your daughter doesn't pull her hair then someone's wrong there! Get a second opinion, go to another dermatologist see what they say, this doesn't seem to be your daughter's case, and don't worry too much.
I have one and I used to feel like Morticia Adams, so thanks to the ones that said it's cute! xx

Sounds like you are woring to much. Try taking a deep breath and calm down. If your daughter does not pull her hair out then she dosen't have that t word thing. It's in your genes. Having a widoes peek is perfectly normal (and with relitives that have it even more likely) and you can do w/e you want with it.
