I have a Sony H1, and I think the H series are great cameras for trips. The big zoom range is very useful for all the different places you will be, and there are plenty of adjustments available for different lighting situations.

Some things you need:

. A spare pair of rechargeable AA batteries (I think one pair and the charger still come with the camera). Alkaline batteries are quickly worn out.

. The camera's video uses up memory card space quickly. Get a 1 GB card minimum. More than 1 if you want to take lots of video.

. Comfortable neck or shoulder strap, or belt camera bag. These cameras are heavier than average. Small camcorder bags work very well for this camera and accessories.

. Consider getting a wide angle add-on lens (about $100) if you like broad views of landscapes or buildings.

If you have time to learn about the camera before you go, read Alan Katz's paper on the H-series cameras at

It gives a mini education in photography with special attention to using the controls on these cameras.

Have Fun!

H2's are okay, but I prefer the Panasonic Lumix FZ-27 better.
