The easiest thing: pushups. Start with 2 sets of ten, and work your way up to 5 sets of 20 (as soon as one set is getting too easy, add more basically), every other day.

What you do to increase the strength of your upper body can't be done around the house, it has to be done at the gym. Go to the gym, workout, eat right and you'll have upper body strength that you'll notice within a 3 month time period.

Bench pressing is best for adding size, but if you are talking about "around the house" without equipment, then traditional on-the-floor push-ups and pull-ups (if something around your house is high enough and strong enough) will work for toning.
