I don't know if it's the same thing, but my family takes a round loaf of Italian bread and hollows it out. Then you spread a layer of pesto around the inside. After that you continue to layer provolone, sun-dried tomatoes (packed in olive oil), fresh basil leaves, mozzarella, slices of salami,(or any Italian style meat) more pesto....and so on, until you completely fill the bread bowl. Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it set overnight. The next day you can either bake it for 30-40 minute at 350 degrees or serve it cold. Use the bread that you removed to eat it - plus another loaf sliced

actually it is called a calzone. It is made with pizza dough and is stuffed with the leftovers from the fridge. Or you can make your own by either making your own pizza dough or using a store-bought pizza dough and sauce (home made or otherwise) and whatever toppings that you choose.. ladle the sauce over one half of the rolled out dough, place your choice of toppings to 1/2 inch away from the edge of the pizza dough. Then brush egg wash (1 beaten egg and a little water) on the outer edge of the dough and pinch or press with a fork until the edge is sealed. Make sure that you have preheated the oven to 450 degrees f. bake for 20 mins. or until internal temp is at least 160 degrees(to ensure it it done and has killed all harmful organisms) or crust is a golden brown. Oregano and cilantro are delicious add inS to make this dish wonderful. send your e-mail address to get a delicious sauce recipe and playful twists on this recipe.

Well--I found a recipe for a cheese and beef stuffed bread--You could probably put whatever you want in it if you are vegetarian..Good Luck...
Super Bowl Beef and Cheese Stuffed Bread Recipe
A different twist on the classic spinach dip in a bread bowl, this uses chipped beef or corned beef, cheeses, and vegetables.
INGREDIENTS:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup sour cream
2 (4-ounce) packages chipped beef or corned beef (see Note), thinly sliced and chopped
1/4 cup fine-chopped scallions
1/4 cup fine-chopped green bell peppers
Dash Worcestershire sauce
1 (6-ounce) package provolone cheese, cut into chunks
1 (8-inch) round loaf bread (sourdough or corn rye preferred)
PREPARATION:
In a nonreactive bowl, mix cream cheese, sour cream, beef, scallions, bell peppers, Worcestershire sauce, and provolone cheese.
Slice off top of bread round and remove soft bread from inside, leaving about a 1-inch-thick shell of bread and crust with no weak places. Fill cavity with cream cheese mixture and replace top of bread loaf. Wrap in foil and place on baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F. 30 minutes or until heated through. To serve place filled loaf on platter, remove top slice. Serve with pieces of bread taken from inside loaf arranged around loaf on platter for dipping.

It's called a spinach dip ...the bread is pumpernickle. You cut a hole in the middle of the pumpernickle and put the dip inside it.
You can buy spinach dip at the grocery store. If you can't find any fresh dip, it's usually in the frozen food section.
And you're right...it IS really good. :)
