I am virtually certain that Robitussion PE is causing my daughter to have diarrhea (b/c of the timing and duration). Diarrhea is not specifically listed as one of the side effects (upset stomach is listed as one of the uncommon side effects). Also, my doctor told us to give her 3/4 tsp... after doing some internet research, one website recommended 1/4 tsp for her age. Can anyone relate to my experience?

If I were you, I'd call the pharmacist at the store you bought it and ask. I call them all the time with questions about medications (whether prescription or OTC) and their side effects. They are VERY knowledgeable about this stuff ... usually much moreso than the doctors. It's their job to know these things. It's what they went to school for and got their degrees in. Best of all, you don't have to wait 15 minutes on hold to get an answer.

Medication for babies is usually dosed based on their weight. If you think the Robitussin is causing the diarrhea, then stop giving it and try something else. If you go to a pharmacy to purchase it, ask the Pharmacist for a recommendation of an alternative.

OK. Well doctors are human, too and you should either stop giving her the medicine or reduce the dosage. My mother teaches at a medical school and recently spent years nursing her husband, brother and father during terminal illnesses. In every case the doctor could misdianose, mis-prescribe, or perform the wrong procedures. It is very good to do your own research and to be the best self-educated you can be. The more you know the safer you are. Good luck and you're a great parent!

There have been alot of news saying not to give over the counter cold medicines to children under the age of 5 cos it causes later side affects such as heart and lung problems... but have also heard that it would have to be over a long period of time for that to happen... i have also read that robitussan isnt that great of a medicine and doesnt really help much but dont quote me on that cos i only read it... you are probably right about it giving her diarrea, try cutting down the dose and see if it helps
