When I was 16, my mother's mother died of ovarian cancer that had metastasized to her lungs before she was even diagnosed with cancer. She had a partial hysterectomy many years prior, guess she should have let them take her ovaries too.

Of course, who hasn`t lost some family member, but not all cancer diagnosis are death sentences. Why some people make it thru chemo and radiation, while others fade away quickly is a mystery. Though progress has been made in the treatment, I doubt if a sure cure will ever be found. Too many different types of cancer, too many different types of treatment, some help and cure, others kill.

Actually, very few. ( wife's uncle)
However, i do know quite a few people, 15 or so, plus 1 cat (seriously) who HAD cancer and either are doing well, or died from something totally unrelated.
Cancer is still bad news, but is no longe an automatic death sentence,

unfortuantely I have lost friends and family to cancer. I lost my father and that was very hard to see him suffer. I also know people now who are going through treatments for cancer. I pray for anyone who has to go through this terrible disease.

In the past two years I've known over 50 patients who have passed away from a rare abdominal sarcoma that predominately strikes boys and young adults.
There are survivors who are disease free but they stay forever vigilant. This is a nasty and swift moving cancer.
Still we remain hopeful.
