I am so glad to find this site. On Dec 20 my precious chico (chihuahua) died. I had been feeding him the iams pouches. I knew he wasnt feeling well the day before, I had to run some errands on the 20th when I got home he was lethargic. I rushed him to the er vet where they couldnt figure out what was wrong, after being there about an hour he had a seizure in my arms they took him away from me and laid him on the table where he died a few minutes later. I have been haunted by why this happened to such a healthy happy little baby and now I feel I have my answers. I hope everyone reports suspious deaths I dont think renal failure will be the end of this. I am also appalled at Iams and Menu not giving out symptoms or side effects but on more than one site Ive seen how much this will cost menu foods. I dont care how much it will cost them we are losing are priceless pets.

YES!!! I have lost a dog and a cat, with another cat being treated at the vet's now. I thought the products I was buying were made in the USA. Don't we grow wheat here? I am all for boycotting any brands that import Chinese wheat gluten. What an awful feeling to know I gave my babies poisoned food!

One of my 3 dogs is at the Vet right now, it just ate 1/3 of a pouch. It was whining, it's belly was bloated, and it's last stool was black. The Vet is doing blood work, x-rays, and is talking about sending us to an Emergency Vet. I'm worried about my other 2 dogs that got the other 2/3rds of the pouch. Someone had better step up and be responsable from these company's, and cover peoples Vet bills. Of your dogs or cats that have survived, what has your Vet done to save your pet. I'm looking for all the help I can get, my family loves these dogs.

The food causes liver failure and possibly death - so far 10 pets have died (as far as they know). They believe it is caused by a problem with Wheat in the foods. If you see any symptoms (the pet will stop eating, be lethargic, etc.) take them to the vet immediately. Meanwhile, I would change foods - check out this site for some of the best I've seen:

Good luck - so sorry to hear of your dog's reaction.

We did!
Our cat ate the canned food we purchased from Walmart back in January. He began vomiting, wouldn't eat or drink began trying to use the litter box without success, and became so lethargic that he collapsed on the kitchen floor. He ended up spending a week in the animal hospital and costing us a small fortune, but he did survive! We have the remaining cans and are hanging on to them to see where this all goes!

Almost. Last night I went and bought dog food. This morning we saw the recall, some of the food I had bought was on the list. We took it back and exchanged it for a brand that wasn't on the list. We feed our dog Nutro.

I have 2 kittens that are on Purina Kitten chow--they are having very loose stools which have a bit of blood in them--the vet has tried everything--fecal was negative not even coccidia we treated them for it anyway--improved while on it but as soon as they stopped back to the soft stools--tried forti flora same thing got better for a little while now even still on it and they have the loose slightly bloody stools again I am not sure what is going on--maybe it is contributed to the food--one of the kittens acts like her abdomen is painful-she has gotten a bit of a bloated feeling to her belly recently...Not sure if this is of much help to you but i hope so...

They haven't confirmed what it causing the illness, but it is suspected that it has something to due with a new supplier of wheat gluten. I have had problems with some of the recalled food, but luckily they only get a little of the canned food. My pups have only had vomiting and diarrhea, and it got better with a change of food.
The recall has only been for canned food, but I hope that your puppy will be okay.
