If I gave you a Christmas present, because I liked you, would you accept it? Has anyone ever given you one (who didn't know you were atheist), like a co-worker? What did you do? Just curious.

Thank you for all your nice answers (except for 'jesus you are dumb' she has issues). You are ALL on my Christmas list now!

Run of the mill christmas gifts don't bother me/offend me. I give them also. However my mother in law has given me a copy of the lords prayer every year, and my sister in law graciously presents me with a nativity set every few years (maybe I'm not atheist enough, throwing jesus in the garbage creeps me out lol) These people know I don't believe and they are just trying to "save" me. While this is annoying I just smile and say thank you, I then donate or toss the offending gift and don't bring it up again. Just don't assume that everyone around you shares your sentiments, beliefs and prejudice. And anyone who is truly offended isn't secure enough in their own beliefs. Keep the father, the son and the holy ghost out of your gifts unless you know that the recipient shares your beliefs and you should be fine. I think it would be far more embarrassing to give "101 reasons why jesus rocks" to a jew than to an atheist!

Sure, I give and receive Christmas presents. I was raised a Christian, and Christmas was a happy and joyful time of the year for me. (Like it is for most.) Even after I stopped believing in a diety, I still continued to celebrate Christmas with the idea that it is a time of year to celebrate family and friends, and I use it as a time for giving. I still have the same joy that I always had that time of year. It's still so much fun!

You know, ANYONE can celebrate christmas. You don't HAVE to be Christian. Although it IS a chirstian holiday, it has become so polular worldwide, and it sometimes has nothing to do with Christ, but just Santa, and the Gift of Giving. I celebrate Christamas, and I am an Atheist. Christmas is special, b/c it can be religious, and it can just be a good yearly lesson. =D Smile!

Some Jews celebrate Chrismuka! I think Christmas has pretty much become an international holiday of fun and presents but as a Christian it also means something more to me!

I like Christmas. I drop the religious part, but we celebrate it.
Judging by the group I know, I think most of us actually do something for Christmas. It is most a secular holiday anyhow. You drop the religious stuff, and you still have pretty much the same thing.

Christmas is just a holiday - people don't give presents expecting to convert the recipient to a particular belief, they give them as a token of their friendship, esteem or love. Oh, I'd take it and I'd be gracious, you can bet on it.
By the way, I give Christmas presents too. It's a fun holiday.

Yes. Religion has nothing to do with politeness.
I am jewish and many of my friends invite me for Christmas and we exchange presents. Not a big deal. I do it because I like them and I respect them. Same way, they respect me.

Absolutely.I give Christmas gifts and I'm atheist. I prefer giving gifts spontaneously though. Christmas and birthdays seem so scripted to me.
