Our relationship has changed, some for the good, some for the bad. I think it is what you make of it.

I hate my husband's ever-changing schedule and the fact that he works holidays. Yet, the time we spend together now as a family is a much better quality than before. I hated that he was going to work Christmas, and yet because he had the day after off, we spent the whole day at home without having to travel, etc., and it was one of our best Christmas' ever.

It's difficult being a police family at times, and yet I am so proud of my husband for choosing a career that gets very little respect, faces dangerous situations every day, and requires sacrifices that others cannot imagine.

Well, in my case, my husband was already a police officer when we married, so it hasn't changed it at all. I would say that most of the time, if the relationship changes it's because the officer's family/friends don't understand or can't accept (whichever it is) that they can't always be there every holiday because they are at work. My husband has missed Christmasses, New Years, kids birthdays, etc., but it's part of the job. We just celebrate and do things when he is home--may not be on the right day, but we work it all in.

I actually met my husband while we were both attending the police academy. We were from different agencies on opposite sides of the state. I already bought a house so he ended quitting his job and moving in with me when we got married. He is still doing a law enforcement-related job and we get along very well. At times I feel a little guilty for him quitting, but if it wasn't him quitting, it would have been me. I would have been giving up a lot more to move with him. We're both extremely happy and are expecting our first child in July.

I am retired from that now, but I was in law enforcement when my wife and I meet, she had no idea about what really happened on the street. She worried about me every day that I would not come home alive. It caused alot of stress.
