Not at all - at work most of us don't even take a lunch because we're always too busy trying to catch up on business and get our stuff done and out, so we always snack and have lunch at our desks while working. Eating is a neccessity - everyone's going to need to do it - but I would say it might be rude if you got like a really smelly lunch, like something strong like cooked broccoli or tuna or something really oniony.... but otherwise, no, unless you smack and make a mess you are totally fine. Not rude at all.

Depends on the workplace. I work in a small gallery and unfortunately I cannot leave my desk for lunch unless someone else is there to take my place making sure the space is secure. This impolite to any visitors we may have and I have gotten looks because of it. It is already enough of a hassle to close the gallery for 10 minutes while I run and get something to eat. It may be rude but I have no choice. But I do know if someone is in the gallery to replace me I will usually go to a cafeteria to eat unless I had to finish up some work.
Also many people don't understand that certain medical conditions force people to take snacks (break or no break) diabetics and other conditions. For example I have an extremely high metabolism and low iron. If I am doing hard physical activities and allow myself to skip a snack I do faint and sometimes vomit. Many people don't understand until they see the effects.

It depends on your work enviorment and or situation, and what your company policy is on eating at your desk.If you work in an office situation and your in view of the public and or are waiting on customers I think its unprofessional. If its o.k. with your boss that you eat your lunch at your desk and everyone can do it,that's fine, but if your talking about someone grazing all day long while they work yes I think that's rude.

No, absolutely not, these days its a necessity with the way business life is going.
In my experience, it actually generates conversation between workers wondering what each other is having and where they are getting it from.
It actually brings people together rather than being rude. If you have a problem with it. Eat out!

Depends entirely on company policy. When I supervised a group of people, none of us were allowed to eat at our desks. It is bad custom to, actually, if there's another place provided. You really should leave the work area when you are on break.
But different jobs are different.....

It never bothered me. When we were on straight 8 we had to eat at our desk. Considering that they spend a lot of time there it's more "homey" and safer. If you bring your lunch from home you can save money too.

Not at all. Most of us cannot leave our desks for very long, so we eat at our desks. Sad fact of working life.

Um no, never heard that one! But I guess there are those ppl who can get offended by anything. Don't worry, you are not doing anything wrong eating at the desk.

Where do you suggest they eat? Alot of people eat lunch at their desk, it's their own personal space. Get over it.

Custom and job etiquette dictate you leave your desk for lunch. Snacks have become annoying and people now eat anywhere.
