Most toothpastes have natural non-nutritive sweeteners so that they are palatable. These sweeteners, like mannitol and sorbitol, are often components of artificial sweeteners like Sweet & Low. They do not break down your teeth; studies actually show the opposite.
It sounds like you have a reasonable routine. Keep up the good work!

Keep up the good work, brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, try using Disclosing Tablets, these little beauties will stain the teeth/gums red/blue and will hi-light the areas you can miss whilst brushing.
Flossing is also great at removing any food/debris which can get stuck in between the teeth and can cause a multitude of sins!
Rinse with a fluoride mouthwash, but not straight after brushing/flossing as you'll get to much fluoride in one hit!
All in all it sounds as though your doing a good job, but dont forget to visit your dentist as well for regular check up's!

1. Drink fluoridated water. (If you're in the States, tap water is).
2. Floss often! If your gums bleed when you do it, you aren't flossing enough.
3. Use something like Listerine - it gets between teeth and kills bacteria on the gumline, as flossing does.
4. Use a toothpaste that is ADA approved. They don't contain sugar or harm your teeth in any way.

I agree with do what your dentist recommends. Our dentist also told us that electric toothbrush has brushing action which cleans well where the gum starts, at bottom of teeth. My dentist genuinely does not like giving fillings, and gets annoyed at folk not keeping to 6 month check ups. She also does not even like patients haveing sugar in thier coffee / tea. My fiend is obsessed by dental floss and his dentist recons he would be out of work if everyone flossed thier gnashers.

yes it is - and some of the cheaper mouth washes are bad too. My dentist who is excellent uses Sensodyne and a phillips sonic care toothbrush, about £100. but I promise you, the best ever toothbrush, that means you will keep you teeth longer. Floss too. Some of the whiltening products are really bad for tooth enamel too - they weaken it, so you loose your teeth to decay more.
