im going to begin schooling to become a linesman. I figured if i was going to be climbing poles i would need to put on some muscle by lifting free weights. ive read where diet is just as important as lifting. i need to know what i should be eating thats high in protien. i work construction so i can only eat something going to work, then a short lunch break, and any time after i get off work. Any ideas or suggestions for good size meals, snacks or quick lunch breaks? thanks adam

First off, it's good that you realize diet is just as important as exercising and lifting.

You do need lots of protein when lifting, it's true. You also need good carbs and fats as well. Starting out, a good rule of thumb is a combination of 40/40/20 of protein/carbs/fats daily, getting about 1 gram of protein and carbs per pound of bodyweight per day with 5-6 meals.

Since you don't have time in your job to eat every 2-3 hours, this is where a good protein/carb supplement comes in. Prepare yourself a bottle of protein shake before going to work for you to gulp down during breaks. I suggest a decent protein powder and carb supplement like maltodextrin, which you can get at any nutrition store online or in town (online is usually cheaper). It's important you keep a pretty consistent and steady flow of nutrients to your body so you can continually maintain a positive nitrogen balance in your body as well as keep insulin levels down and metabolism up. This will the the most effective way for anabolism to occur (muscle building).

Lean meats like tuna, chicken, turkey and low fat beef are great choices. Try to stay away from simple carbs, pretty much anything white and processed. Whole grains, brown rice, semolina pasta, oatmeal, things like that are best. Good fats would be olive, flax seed and fish oils and can easily be added to many foods. Just remember that, pound for pound, fat packs a lot of calories so be careful about how much you get. Stay away from high cholesterol/bad fat foods.

Good luck!

Go to http://adrennan.qhealthzone.com There you will find all sorts of stuff from the number one vitamin and supplement company in the world. They creatine squeezees and protein stuff for people who do that sort of thing. The coolest thing is they have a 100% money back guarentee on all of their stuff for up to a year so you can't lose. If you get something and don't like it you can get all your money back. i don't think any other company offers that. They even have a chocolate protein pudding. it may sound gross but it tastes like regular pudding. Just go check out the website you'll find something
