This depends on the plant. All plants need water to grow, however, too much water will result in root rot. Too little water will result in wilting. Plants store water in organelles called vacuoles to give themselves "turgor pressure" so they can stand upright. I don't think you are going to find a site giving you a general answer. If you are looking for specifics you will need to consult horticultural sites and look up specific plants. Google comes to mind.

you should measure the moisture content of the soil w/ a hydrometer. If you over water your plants they could get "wet feet" and there roots will rot.

I'm no botanist, but, it would depend on the type of plant and maturity of the plant.

it all depends but better to under water then over water
